Hi! My name is Aria Gerson.

My whole life, I've always loved to write.

Throughout middle and high school, I did a lot of creative writing, doing short stories and novels. As I moved into college, I branched out, exploring journalism and creative nonfiction.

But I realized that there was another type of writing I've been doing the whole time: social media. I never thought of that as writing before, but my twitter account is really similar to a blog. I've spent a lot of time on Twitter since high school, and I'm very plugged in to internet culture, memes and inside jokes among certain communities I'm a part of. That was what inspired me to combine several aspects of writing I've done, blending academic and creative writing with social media culture to create cultural criticism.

I'm a junior at the University of Michigan studying political science with minors in history and writing. I'm also a senior sports editor and football writer for the Michigan Daily.

College football has a rich online culture, with many memes and jokes, and I've recently begun to explore writing within that culture via my twitter account, which has informed my work on this project.

Outside those two things, I'm a blogger for Arts at Michigan and a member of Writer to Writer literary journal and Wolverine Support Network. I love pop culture, but I don't usually get a chance to write about it due to my focus on sports, so I'm excited to explore pop culture topics more in-depth with this project.
